The world is my kaleidoscope

The world is my kaleidoscope

The first blog I wrote on Multiple Intelligence gave me immense satisfaction. Having touched upon such a well thought through theory, which is so applicable in our practical teaching life, it felt like pulling out a piece of ribbon from the hat of a magician. The learning from this theory is so vast, it is almost impossible to sum it up in one single article. This is when an idea struck, to do justice to each aspect of MI (Multiple Intelligence). As a result, I will be coming up with a series of articles, explaining all the 8 intelligences. To start off, I would like to shed more light on Visual-Spatial Intelligence, one of the first means of learning in children. In my subsequent writings, I would be dealing with all the other 7 intelligences.  World sees doodles and scribbles, I see a masterpiece!! Have you ever seen children doodling on a scrap of paper or the flo...

Parenting in India and Abroad

Parenting in India and Abroad

Shashank's 5 year old son Adi threw his dad's iPhone across the hall in a rage. Shashank told him "Adi, you cannot do that!" for which Aditya took another android phone that was on the table and flung it at him again. He was in rage! And Shashank had no idea how to handle it. I learn the way I like!

I learn the way I like!

I am a kindergarten teacher and I think it is safe to say that it is one of the most rewarding and fun-filled professions ever. The young minds constantly surprise, inspire, challenge and teach me with their diversities. Each child largely follows the same milestones, yet is so different!! While one has a keen ear to music, the other is always making an art masterpiece. One cannot resist shaking a leg whenever music is played, and the other prefers a quiet corner to do and learn things. Why are children so different? What sets them apart from their peers? How is it that eventually, all the children learn all the basic skills, albeit via different routes and means? These interesting questions were answered by one of the most popularly accepted theories in the field of education,...

After School Activities for Kids

After School Activities for Kids

After school the young minds need to be engaged in a comfortable yet stimulating environment. This allows the children to balance learning at school and home. Parents must plan time for homework help, to fun physical activities so that the children have a happy growth overall. Hectic Lives “Hectic” is how most young parents I know describe their everyday lives. Yet they really want to spend time with their children and help these brains grow. Few things should be kept in mind while spending time with our children. Brain Power Parents must help inspire the child to enjoy learning. They must provide experiences that develop the child’s ability to problem solve, observe, predict and explore cause and effect relationships. Parents must also provide time and support to complete homework and school projects. How do we do it? Building strong relationship with your child is the key...

Nutrition in lunch box for Pre-schoolers

Power of breakfast: Mornings may be crazy, but breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Breakfast has an impact on our child’s metabolism. Kids who eat a healthy breakfast tend to eat healthier overall. They also do better in school, have an increased attention span and are more likely to participate in physical activities. At the same time healthy lunch box for school is equally important. Schools have opened after 2 months of summer break, for some kids (playgroup or pre-primary) it is their first time to school. Kids have a tough time going to school after long holidays.  Packing lunch box is another struggle. Mothers really hate to see food left in lunch boxes because the kids did not feel like eating it. Nutrition cannot be compromised too. It has to be TASTY and HEALTHY. WHAT TO PUT INTO THE LUNCH BOX OF MY LITTLE ONE?
